2-1-1 is a free information and referral service in New Hampshire.  2-1-1 New Hampshire can be reached by dialing 1-866-444-4211. The TTY line is 603-634-3388.  2-1-1 NH anticipates state-wide use of the 2-1-1 dialing code by the end of 2008.  2-1-1 NH operates weekdays 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with the goal of operating 24/7 in the future.  The 2-1-1 NH website, www.211nh.org is now available and includes a searchable database.

The Marriage and Family Center

At the MFTC, advanced graduate students who are specializing in marital and family therapy provide assistance to individuals, couples, and families experiencing a wide range of personal or relationship problems. MFTC uses a sliding fee scale, dependent on family income and size, to determine payment for services. Fees range from $2 to $50 per session and it payable by cash or check at the end of the session.

Sexual Assault Supportive Services is dedicated to supporting victims/survivors in their effort to heal from the trauma of sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse, and stalking, while striving to prevent the occurrence of sexual violence in local communities and in society at large. SASS offers confidential 24-hour sexual assault crisis hotline, 24-hour advocacy and support at police stations, hospital emergency rooms and the courts, support groups for survivors and others affected by sexual violence, sexual abuse and assault prevention education in the schools for children, teens and parents, as well as sexual harassment prevention workshops for schools and the workplace. SHARPP provides direct service to all survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence and those who care about them. At SHARPP advocates can provide: crisis intervention, emotional support, a supportive presence if you seek medical care, assistance with an academic intervention to relieve academic stress, assistance in negotiating the system if you wish to make a police report or pursue disciplinary action through UNH Judicial Programs, referrals for follow-up medical care, counseling, SHARRP support groups, as well as providing support, information, and referrals for significant others, family, or friends, if desired.

Stop Abuse For Everyone (SAFE) is a human rights organization that provides services, publications, and training to serve those who typically fall between the cracks of domestic violence services: straight men, GLBT victims, teens, and the elderly. SAFE-NH promotes services for all victims and accountability for all perpetrators. SAFE-NH offers a 24-hour (emergency crisis) helpline for all residents of New Hampshire.  SAFE-NH offers Advocates (court, social service, helpline and peer support), an expert witness program, support groups and education and outreach services. SAFE-NH is in the process of creating an emergency shelter for all victims of domestic violence seeking safe shelter from abusive relationships and a transitional housing program to provide low-cost housing for those families that continue to need assistance in moving forward after suffering trauma and crisis from abuse.

The NH Medication Bridge Program (NHBP) is an initiative to help low-income individuals access medications from pharmaceutical companies. Eligibility requirements include: being a U.S. resident, lack of alternative prescription coverage (Medicaid, VA, private insurance, etc.), a household income less than 200% of poverty level, and this only covers long-term medications.

The mission of ACLU is to preserve all of the following protections and guarantees for American citizens: your 1st Amendment rights (freedom of speech, association and assembly; freedom of the press, and freedom of religion), your right to equal protection under the law (equal treatment regardless of race, sex, religion, or national origin), your right to due process (fair treatment by the government whenever the loss of your liberty or property is at stake), and your right to privacy (freedom from unwarranted government intrusion into your personal and private affairs. ACLU also works to extend rights to populations that have traditionally been denied their rights, such as Native Americans and other people of color; lesbians; gay men; bisexuals and transgendered people; women; mental health patients; prisoners; people with disabilities; and the poor.

Transitions provides comprehensive physical, emotional, and spiritual support and practical assistance for patients and families coping with life-limiting illnesses. It is available for individuals who choose to pursue curative treatment or palliative care, and for those who don’t want, or don’t qualify for, hospice care and is free of charge.

Dover Adult Learning Center of Strafford County helps teenagers and adults in the Strafford County area enhance their life-coping skills and improve their lives through basic education, job training, high school completion, and enrichment classes. DALC offers a variety of programs and courses, including literacy and basic skills, adult high school, G.E.D., vocational and computer skills, and workforce development. The adult basic education classes are free to anyone over 18 and in the Strafford County and the New Hampshire GED test fee is $13 for each test and $65 for all. The enrichment classes, vocational & computer skills and workforce development classes may carry a fee that varies depending upon the specific course.
